4c Hears the GENESIS suite at the Stefaniensaal

This week, students from 4c took a trip to the Stefaniensaal to hear the KUG symphony orchestra and choir perform the Austrian premiere of the GENESIS suite. This unique piece was written in 1945 and showcases music from seven influential 20th-century composers. The suite opens with a prelude written by Arnold Schönberg, which features the groundbreaking ’12-tone technique’, his signature contribution to the development of contemporary classical composition. Other composers include Darius Milhaud, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Igor Stravinsky (and others). These subsequent composers wrote music to aurally illustrate and enhance different stories from Genesis, which were simultaneously read as the music was performed.
