IBDP Coordinators Meeting and Visit to Maribor International School

On Friday, 29 March 2019, the Austrian State School IBDP Coordinators held their annual meeting at GIBS.

Coordinators and deputies from ISI Innsbruck, SALIS Salzburg, LISA Linz, KIS KLosterneuburg and LAIS St. Pölten particpipated.

During the first session chaired by Oliver Kim the topics we discussed were:  alignment of the IBDP with the Austrian Matura/SRP, admission policies, the situation of our international students and administrative and legal issues.

In the second session our CAS coordinator, Brigitte Greimel-Wasner, presented “CAS at GIBS: The Heart of the DP” together with three students from 7i and 8i (Isabel Walcher, Gabriel Vogt and Sarah Zurl) and GIBS administrator Heinz Knasar answered questions related to timetable issues and Socrates as well as WebUntis, the two Austrian administrative programmes.

In the final session Katrin Fox, IB World Schools Manager, joined us virtually via skype to answer our questions and to update us on new IBDP developments concerning curricula reviews and e-exams.

Afterwards we had the opportunity of visiting Maribor International School and seeing the performance of the musical “Midsummer Nights’ Dream” of their English Student Theatre.”  12 GIBS teachers and our principal, Imelda Görög, came along to Maribor for the school tour and presentation by Ivan Lorencic, Head of II Gimnazija Maribor. As a special surprise, the three Slovene State School IB coordinators (Polona Vehovar from Maribor, Natasa Kne from Kranj and Irena Cesnik from Bezigrad/Ljubljana) joined the event.

We really enjoyed the fantastic performance and the chance to network successfully with our closest IB schools.
