Project Kinderleicht
On Thursday the 10th of October we (4C) had the opportunity to visit the carbon solutions producing company Hirtensteiner and this trip was part of the project “Kinderleicht”. Hirtensteiner produces lightweight parts for racing cars, military vehicles and airplanes. These parts are made from various plastic based materials.
We went there by bus and stayed the day. First, we looked at the facilities and talked to the people who worked there. Together with our guide we crafted a right angle out of carbon fiber using sets that they had prepared for us beforehand. Afterwards we looked at one of the three autoclaves on the property that had been a huge investment for the company.
After a short break we reconvened at ground level and the CEO of the company gave a presentation about the company’s history. We could ask a few questions before he told us about the company’s different products. He then showed us around the outside properties, and we had the chance to look at all the different ways to use carbon fiber.
Overall, it was interesting to finally see the production process of pieces made from carbon fiber, after learning about them last year.
